Atempo! Music Studio is owned and managed by Nena Chavez. She has 22 years of experience as a music teacher, performing artist and wind instruments clinician. She graduated at the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Music degree, major in clarinet. She has been a member of the UP Youth Symphonic Band since 1991 and had been part of the woodwind quintet. She performed in various concert halls in the Philippines, like, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, PhilAm Life Theater, Abelardo Hall Music Auditorium in the University of the Philippines and Siliman Auditorium in Siliman University Dumaguete City. She was also a member of the Metro Manila Community Orchestra under the directorship of Prof. Josefino Chino Toledo.
As one of the moderators of the special music program of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School in the Philippines, she handled and trained the school's Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra.
Nena is one of the conductors who prepared the students in performing in local and international music festivals in Asia and the U.S.A. She yearns to impart to her students a deep understanding and appreciation of music- making and develop a high sense of musicality and musicianship while having fun in exploring different wind instruments. She was the band teacher to elementary and high school students and is very in demand as a wind instruments clinician. She has extensive training and experience as a music theory teacher, instrumental music teacher and a conductor.
She has significant experience working with beginning woodwinds and brass winds players and conducting symphonic bands and school orchestra in international music festivals. Her latest achievements as a conductor were performing with the symphonic band students at the Los Angeles International Music Festival (2018) and students from the symphony orchestra during the Chicago International Music Festival (2019) where they garnered gold awards for their outstanding performance and became the pride of the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School.
Her teaching style is extensive and inclusive which has inspired several of her students to pursue a career in music. Nena is dedicated to share her passion and love of music and hopes to encourage all of her students to seek and strive for their own musical goals.
